Free Robux Scams: Every Trick Kids Fall For (and How to Explain It)

TL;DR, bestie

There is no such thing as free Robux. No generator, no “verify to claim” site, no secret code, no app. Roblox says this itself: any offer of free Robux or a free subscription is a scam. Real Robux comes from buying it, gift cards, a Roblox Plus bundle, or selling things you’ve made. If your kid has typed their password into a “free Robux” page, change it now and turn on 2-Step Verification.

“Free Robux” scams have been around longer than my Tamagotchi’s longest survival streak. They work because they’re aimed at kids who really, really want that Robux. Here are the tricks they use, how to spot each one, and how to explain it so it actually sticks.

The scams kids fall for most

ScamWhat it looks likeWhat it actually wants
Robux generatorA site that says “enter your username and pick 10,000 Robux”Your password, or for you to do “human verification” surveys
“Verify you’re human”Endless surveys, app installs or “offer walls”Ad money for the scammer, plus your personal details
Fake login pageA site that looks just like Roblox’s login page, at a slightly wrong addressYour username and password
Download or “mod menu”An app, extension or file that promises Robux or cheatsMalware, or your account cookie (which logs them in as you)
In-game “free Robux” gameA game with a “free Robux” name and ads pointing off-siteClicks, game passes, or your login on a fake site
Livestream or comment giveaway“Drop your username, first 100 get 1,000 Robux”Your username to target, then a link to a fake site
“Give me Robux, I’ll double it”A player promising to send back moreYour Robux, gone for good
Fake staff message“Roblox Admin: your account will be deleted unless you verify”Your login, or for you to panic and click

How to spot one in five seconds

  • It’s free and it’s Robux. That alone is enough to know.
  • It asks for your password, a code or a download anywhere that isn’t the real Roblox login page.
  • The address is wrong: extra words, odd spellings, or anything that isn’t roblox.com.
  • It’s rushing you: “only 3 left”, “expires in 2 minutes”.
  • The “staff” message came through chat or a game. Roblox staff don’t ask for your password.

The real ways to get Robux

WayNotes
Buy RobuxIn the app or on roblox.com
Roblox gift cardsFrom real retailers, redeemed on the official redeem page
Roblox Plus bundlesPlus 500 / 1000 / 2000 include monthly Robux
Make and sell thingsGames, game passes or avatar items, for creators

If it isn’t on that list, it isn’t real.

Scam check

Scam check: the “free Robux” pitch that catches older kids is “I’ll give you Robux if you give me your account for a minute” or “I’ll double it”. Roblox can’t return Robux or items lost in a deal outside its official features. And anything that asks for a 2-Step Verification code is trying to get into the account, full stop.

How to explain it to your kid

What works:

  • Make it a game: “Find the catch.” Show them a generator ad and get them to spot the red flags from the list above. Kids love catching a scammer out.
  • One simple rule: “Nobody gives away Robux. If it says free Robux, it’s a trick.” Short enough to remember mid-game.
  • No-shame reporting: tell them they won’t lose Roblox for telling you they clicked something. Scared kids hide it, and that’s when accounts get emptied.
  • The password rule: your password only ever goes into the real Roblox login, and you never share it with anyone, not even a “friend” or “staff”.

If your child already fell for one

  1. Change the Roblox password from a trusted device.
  2. Turn on 2-Step Verification in Settings → Security.
  3. Use Log out of all other sessions in the same Security settings.
  4. Change the password anywhere else it was reused.
  5. If they downloaded something, run a malware scan and remove it.
  6. Report the game, user or ad with Roblox’s Report Abuse button.
  7. If the account is lost, contact Roblox Support using the account’s email.

Kiko’s take: I’ve watched “free Robux” scams evolve from dodgy pop-ups to slick TikToks, and the pitch has never changed: something for nothing, if you hand over one little thing. Teach the one rule and make telling you shame-free, and you’ve beaten most of them. The best defense against a scammer is a kid who’s proud to have caught one.

FAQ

Are Robux generators ever real?

No. Roblox says there’s no legitimate free Robux generator, and that any such offer is a scam.

Can someone hack an account with just a username?

A username alone isn’t enough. Scammers use it to target your child with fake sites and messages asking for the password or a 2-Step code.

Will Roblox return stolen Robux?

Roblox can’t return anything lost in deals made outside its official features. Contact Support about a compromised account anyway.

Are “free Robux” games on Roblox safe?

Treat them with suspicion. Many push off-site links or game passes. Report any that ask for logins.
