Roblox Spending Limits: How to Stop Surprise Robux Bills
TL;DR, bestie
To stop surprise Robux bills:
- Link a parent account.
- Go to Settings → Parental controls → [child] → Spending restrictions.
- Set a Monthly spending limit. 0 blocks all purchases.
- Set Spending notifications to All transactions.
Also:
- Lock down the app store (Apple, Google or console) with purchase approval and a password.
- Don’t leave a saved card on a shared device.
The Roblox limit stops working at 13 and doesn’t block gift cards.

The surprise Robux bill is a rite of passage nobody asked for. Good news: you can basically make it impossible. You need two layers, Roblox’s own spending limit and your device’s purchase settings. Here’s both.

Layer 1: Roblox’s monthly spending limit
You need a linked parent account. Parent mode on the child’s device can set limits, but spending notifications need a linked account.
- On your account, go to Settings → Parental controls and select your child.
- Scroll to Settings you manage → Spending restrictions.
- Select Monthly spending limit, enter an amount (0 to 10,000, in your local currency), and select Update.
- Set Spending notifications to All transactions for a heads-up on every purchase, or High spend alerts.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Limit = 0 | No purchases at all. Gift cards still redeem |
| Limit = a small amount (e.g. $10) | A monthly allowance. It resets at the end of the calendar month and doesn’t roll over |
| No limit (default) | Anything goes. Not recommended for kids |
| All transactions notifications | An email for every spend |
| High spend alerts (on by default) | An email at $100, $250 and $500 USD (or local equivalent) a month, then every ten transactions |
Things to know:
- The limit may not apply on some consoles. Use the console’s own controls too (Layer 2).
- Subscriptions (like Roblox Plus, or a game’s subscription) count towards spending. Manage them from the Spending restrictions page.
- From 13, spending limits stop applying, but you can still get notifications.

Layer 2: lock the device’s store
Most surprise bills come from app store purchases, where Robux is bought through Apple or Google with the card saved on that account.
| Device | What to turn on |
|---|---|
| iPhone or iPad | Screen Time → Content & Privacy → iTunes & App Store Purchases → In-app Purchases: Don’t Allow (or use Ask to Buy in Family Sharing) |
| Android | Google Play → Settings → Authentication: require authentication for all purchases. Family Link approvals for kids’ accounts |
| Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, Quest | The console’s family settings: spending limits or purchase approval |
| Computer | Don’t save a card in the browser on a kid’s account |
Where the Robux actually goes
Knowing what kids spend on helps you set a sensible limit:
| Purchase | What it is | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Game passes | One-off upgrades in a game (VIP, x2 speed) | “Just one more” stacking |
| Developer products | Repeatable buys: boosts, spins, currency | These add up fastest |
| Avatar items | Clothes, accessories, emotes | Limited items with resale hype |
| Private servers | A paid server in a game | Often monthly, so they renew |
| Subscriptions | Roblox Plus, or a game’s own subscription | Recurring charges that are easy to forget |
If your notifications show lots of small developer-product purchases, that’s your sign to drop the limit or have a chat.
Layer 3: a clear allowance
Kids are less likely to sneak spends when there’s a legit way to get Robux:
- A gift card each month or for birthdays (redeeming is always allowed).
- A monthly limit that matches the allowance, so they can buy in the app within it.
- Agree on what it’s for: a game pass they want, rather than random impulse buys.
Already got a surprise bill?
- Check where it was charged: Roblox directly, Apple, Google or a console store. The receipt email tells you.
- App store charges: request a refund through Apple or Google’s own refund process.
- Roblox direct charges: contact Roblox Support with the transaction details.
- Then set the limits above so it can’t happen again.
Refunds aren’t guaranteed. Each store has its own rules.
Kiko’s take: Set the limit to 0, turn on All transactions alerts, lock the app store, then give a monthly gift card as the official way in. Total setup is about ten minutes, and it’s the closest thing to Y2K-proofing your bank account that exists.
Not sure where to start? Set the limit to 0 for now, then raise it once you’ve agreed an allowance together. It’s much easier to loosen a rule than to tighten one after a surprise bill.
FAQ
Does a 0 spending limit stop gift cards?
No. Gift card redemption isn’t affected by the monthly limit.
Can I see what my child bought?
Yes. With a linked parent account and All transactions notifications on, you’ll get an email for each spending transaction. Your child’s page in Parental controls also shows their Robux balance.
When does the limit reset?
At the end of each calendar month. Unused amounts don’t roll over.
Why didn’t the Roblox limit stop an iPhone purchase?
It should cover Roblox purchases, but also lock in-app purchases in Screen Time. That stops the charge at the Apple level too.
Does the limit work after my child turns 13?
No. From 13, spending limits don’t apply, but you can keep spending notifications.
