Is Brookhaven Safe for Kids? Roleplay, Chat and Privacy for Parents
TL;DR, bestie
- Roblox rates Brookhaven “Minimal”, its lowest maturity label: “suitable for everyone”. There’s no gore and no scary content.
- The real risk is other people, not the game. It’s an open roleplay world with up to 30 strangers per server.
- Chat is controlled by Roblox’s parental controls. Brookhaven also has Quick Chat, which uses only preset phrases and emojis.
- Safest setup: age-checked account, chat limited to friends, a spending limit, and a private server for friends-only play.
- Talk about roleplay boundaries. “Dating” or creepy roleplays from strangers? Leave, block and report.

If your kid plays Roblox, they’ve almost certainly played Brookhaven. It’s one of the most popular games on the whole platform. It’s a cheerful little town with houses, cars and jobs, and no violence to speak of. So is it safe? Mostly yes, as long as you set up chat and talk about who they play with. Here’s a calm, parent-friendly breakdown.

What Brookhaven is (in one minute)
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What do kids do? | Make up stories: families, school, police chases, running a shop |
| Is there combat? | No combat system. Some tools look like props from action films, used in pretend “robbery” plots |
| Is it scary? | No. There’s a light mystery storyline and seasonal Halloween bits, but nothing graphic |
| Who’s in a server? | Up to 30 players, usually strangers unless it’s a private server |
| Does it cost money? | Free to play. Gamepasses and private servers cost Robux |
| Who makes it? | Created by Wolfpaq, owned and run by Voldex since February 2025 |
The maturity label
Roblox gives Brookhaven its Minimal content label, described as “suitable for everyone”. That’s the lowest level, which means there’s no blood, no realistic violence and no crude humor built into the game. Compare that with something like Murder Mystery 2, which is rated higher because of its knife-and-gun rounds.
But that label covers the game’s content, not what other players type or act out.
The real risks (and how likely they are)
| Risk | How it happens | What helps |
|---|---|---|
| Strangers chatting | Public servers mix kids and teens from everywhere | Roblox chat settings, plus a “never share personal info” rule |
| Inappropriate roleplay | Some players push “dating”, “boyfriend/girlfriend” or creepy family plots | Teach kids to leave, block and report |
| Moving off Roblox | “Add me on Discord/Snap” requests | A firm house rule: no moving to other apps |
| Scams | “Follow me for free Robux”, fake giveaways | See my free Robux scams guide |
| Spending | Gamepasses look tempting | A monthly spending limit |
| House griefing | Strangers barge in or blow things up in pretend play | Lock doors and ban players from the plot |
Most sessions are just kids running pretend pizza shops. Still, it’s worth knowing what to watch for.
Chat: what kids can and can’t say
- Roblox controls chat. Kids who haven’t completed an age check can’t chat at all. Under-13s are limited to similar age groups and filtered text. Set this up via my Roblox parental controls guide.
- Quick Chat is Brookhaven’s own button (top left). It sends preset phrases (“Thank you”, “Sorry”, “Follow me”) and emojis only, with a 10-second cooldown. That makes it a nice option for younger kids who don’t need free text.
- Emotes and roleplay still work without chat. Plenty of kids happily play Brookhaven by acting things out rather than typing.
Privacy in Brookhaven
- House signs show the owner’s name, photo and house number. There’s a setting to hide other players’ house signs.
- Never use a real name in house signs or the character bio.
- The Family feature tracks other family members on the map. Only join families with real-life friends.
- Lock doors and close windows with House Controls to keep randoms out of a roleplay.

The safest way to play: a private server
A private server means only people you invite can join. For younger kids, that’s the gold standard: friends-only roleplay, with the owner able to kick or ban anyone. It’s a monthly Robux subscription, or included with a Roblox Plus subscription.
Setup checklist for parents
| Step | Where |
|---|---|
| Link your account to your child’s | Roblox Parental Controls |
| Set content maturity | Parental Controls (Brookhaven is Minimal, so it’s allowed at every level) |
| Limit chat to friends, or turn it off | Parental Controls, Communication |
| Add a spending limit | Parental Controls, Spending |
| Teach block and report | Roblox’s in-game menu: pick the player, then Block or Report |
| Agree house rules | No real names, no other apps, tell a grown-up if something’s weird |
Scam check
Scam check: “Free Robux”, “free VIP if you follow me” and “join my group for a gamepass” are always scams in Brookhaven. Nobody can give away gamepasses for free. Never type your password anywhere except the official Roblox login.
Kiko’s take: Brookhaven is honestly one of the gentlest games on Roblox. Think digital dollhouse rather than Call of Duty. The thing I’d spend time on is the “what do you do if someone’s weird?” chat. Make it easy for kids to tell you without worrying they’ll lose the game. A Tamagotchi rule works well: if it needs looking after, you come to me.
