How to Steal Eggs in Steal An Egg Without Getting Bonked
TL;DR, bestie
- Grabbing is easy. Getting home is the hard part. Walk up to a nest, press E, and sprint back to your garden. The steal only counts once the egg lands there.
- Speed above the gate number. Heavy eggs slow you down, so aim for a buffer past each biome’s recommended Speed.
- Time the reset. Map eggs refresh roughly every 5 minutes, after a short closeout. Rare and Secret eggs land on that same reset, so watch chat.
- Getting caught: in the guard’s own biome, the egg goes back to the nest. Caught closer to home, it can stay on the ground for a second try.
- Traps behind you, bat ready. Other players can bat the egg out of your hands, and you can do the same to them.

“Steal” is right there in the name, but most new players lose more eggs than they keep. The difference between a good thief and a bonked one is mostly planning: knowing your Speed, your route and your timing. Here’s how to steal eggs in Steal An Egg and actually get them home.

The steal, step by step
- Scout the nest. From your base, note which biome it’s in, who’s guarding it and how far it is. Some guards (often near the Lake) nap, which gives you a clean grab without a chase.
- Do a dry run. Run there and back once without stealing. Then add a few seconds for the pick-up animation, the slowdown from a big egg, and any trap you might drop.
- Watch the reset. Eggs refresh on a loop of about five minutes, and the field briefly closes before each new batch.
- Grab and go. Press E at the nest and start running straight away. Don’t stop to fight unless you’re sure you’ll still make it.
- Use traps and the bat if a guard or player closes in.
- Deliver to your garden. Leave a free pen slot so the new pet has somewhere to go.
Speed: the number that decides everything
Each biome gate shows a recommended Speed. Treat it as the minimum. Carrying an egg slows you down, and bigger eggs slow you more.
| Biome | Gate (recommended) | Comfortable for heavy eggs |
|---|---|---|
| Lake | ~900 | ~1,200 |
| Desert | ~10,000 | ~12,000 |
| Jungle | ~40,000 | ~50,000 |
| Snow | ~170,000 | ~210,000 |
| Volcano | ~700,000 | ~840,000 |
| Abyss Ocean | ~2.5M | ~3M |
Figures are community-tested carry numbers. They’re guides, not promises. If your Speed is under the gate, train on the treadmill or buy a better trail first.
Guards by biome
| Biome | Guard | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Forest | Chicken | Slow chase. The best place to practice traps |
| Lake | Swan | Fast, but nap windows help |
| Desert | Scorpion | The first real mid-game test |
| Jungle | Tiger | Longer chases, so get a better trail first |
| Snow | Yeti | Eggs often take minutes to hatch |
| Volcano | Cerberus | Heavy, high-income eggs |
What happens if you get caught?
| Where you’re caught | What happens to the egg |
|---|---|
| Inside the guard’s own biome | It goes back to the nest |
| After crossing into a closer biome | It can stay on the ground where you fell |
| Batted by a player | You drop it, and they can grab it |
That second rule matters: if you fall short near home, a quick second grab is often much closer than the nest.
Traps and the bat
Traps come from Pet Index rewards. Drop one on your path and any guard or player who steps on it gets stunned. You can trigger your own trap too, so leave yourself a gap on the way home. Traps are limited, so save them for choke points.
The bat knocks eggs out of other players’ hands. It’s fair game in both directions, so if you see someone sprinting with a big egg, they’re a target, and so are you. Keep moving, don’t take the obvious path, and never stop to gloat.
Rare and Secret eggs
Rare and Secret eggs can appear in any biome when the map resets, even the Forest. They’re often called out in server chat. On a reset, check chat first, then go for the best one you can actually get home with. With seven players per server, contested spawns get busy, so some players hop servers to find a quieter one.

Night changes things
The game has a day–night cycle, and eggs in the field can be wiped when night falls. Plan steals before the switch, or be ready to sprint once the fresh spawns land. Some biomes, like Angels & Demons, only open at night.
Kiko’s take: My rule: if I have to think “I can probably make it”, I can’t. Train for another few minutes, buy the next trail, then go. The egg will still be there next reset, and my pride won’t be on the floor of the Desert.
Scam check
Scam check: “Auto-steal”, “guard bypass” and “anti-hit” scripts are everywhere on YouTube. They break Roblox’s rules, they can get your account banned, and many are just account stealers in disguise. Don’t run them. Parents, see my Roblox trading scams guide.
