Rift Event in Steal An Egg: Overlord Fights, Boss Tokens and Rift Eggs

TL;DR, bestie

  • The Rift Event in Steal An Egg opens a Rift somewhere on the map every 30 minutes. Go in, beat the Overlord, and earn Boss Tokens plus Boss Mastery Points.
  • Boss Tokens buy temporary boosts (Cash, Speed and Treadmill) and a Mutation Shard in the Boss Shop. Mastery unlocks bigger rewards, including eggs with the Fractured mutation.
  • A permanent Rift in the lobby takes 3 pets and gives you 1 exclusive Rift Egg. Its banner rotates about every 3 hours between Riftborn, Riftbeasts and Shattered Rift.
  • When the Overlord faints, hit its hand with your bat for 100 damage per hit.

The Rift Event is Steal An Egg’s version of a raid boss, and it’s the most “everyone drop what you’re doing” thing in the game right now. A purple tear opens in the world, players pile in, and the Overlord gets bonked into next week.

There’s also a quieter side to it, the Rift Sacrifice, which is where the exclusive Rift pets come from. Here’s how all of it fits together.

How it works

There are really two systems sharing one theme.

1. The Boss Rift

Every 30 minutes, a Rift opens somewhere on the map. Step inside and you fight the Overlord. Beat it and you get Boss Tokens and Boss Mastery Points.

Boss Tokens go to the Boss Shop, which sells temporary boosts: Cash multipliers, Speed multipliers and Treadmill boosters. It also sells a Mutation Shard, a consumable that has a 10% chance to apply a mutation to an egg in your pen.

It works on eggs that are still growing as well as fully grown ones. My Mutations page explains why that’s a big deal.

Boss Mastery is the long game. Every Overlord you beat adds points, and the track unlocks better rewards as it goes, including eggs that already have the Fractured mutation.

2. The Rift Sacrifice and the permanent Rift

A separate Rift sits permanently in the lobby. It asks for 3 random pets.

Hand them over and you get 1 exclusive Rift Egg. Which pets it asks for depends on the active banner:

BannerDraws pets from
RiftbornJungle, Snow, Volcano and Abyss Ocean eggs
RiftbeastsVolcano, Abyss Ocean, Prehistoric and Cosmic eggs
Shattered RiftPrehistoric, Cosmic, Cherry Blossom and Titan Temple eggs

Each banner splits its requests into Easy, Medium and Hard pets. The banner rotates about every 3 hours, and your pity progress carries over even if you leave the game or the banner changes.

Step by step: your first Overlord

  1. Watch for the Rift. One opens every 30 minutes somewhere on the map.
  2. Bring your best bat. My Weapons page has the full list.
  3. Fight until the Overlord faints. It goes down periodically during the battle.
  4. Hit its hand while it’s down. Each bat hit on the hand does 100 damage. That’s the damage window, so don’t waste it.
  5. Collect your Boss Tokens and Mastery Points.
  6. Save tokens for the right boost. Spend them when a boost actually helps, not the second they land.

Tips

  • Plan the Boss Shop around your goal. Stuck at a biome gate? Speed or Treadmill boosts. Saving for an upgrade? Cash multipliers.
  • Use the Mutation Shard on your best egg. With a 10% chance, you want the payoff to be worth it.
  • Check the banner before sacrificing. If you’re holding easy Riftborn pets, wait for Riftborn instead of feeding in pets you care about.
  • Pity doesn’t reset, so there’s no penalty for logging off mid-streak.

Common mistakes

  • Spending tokens instantly. Temporary boosts are wasted if you’re not around to use them.
  • Sacrificing pets you’ll miss. The Rift takes 3 pets every time. Read the request before you confirm.
  • Swinging at the wrong time. The big damage comes from hitting the hand when the Overlord faints.
  • Trusting “Rift glitch” videos. Exploits can get your account banned. The real rewards are already generous.

The Rift Event is the best thing in Steal An Egg right now for players who are a bit stuck. Free boosts for beating a boss is a W, and the Rift Sacrifice finally gives duplicate mid-tier pets a purpose.

My only warning: the Mutation Shard is a 10% shot, not a guarantee. Treat it like a gacha with extra steps and you won’t be disappointed.
