The Ram in 99 Nights in the Forest: Behavior, Drops and How to Survive
TL;DR, bestie
- The Ram only appears on maps with the Volcanic biome. On those maps it can replace the Deer on some nights from night 5, starting with a “The Ram has woken up” cutscene.
- It can’t be killed and has no drops.
- The big threat is its charge. It stops, a meter fills, then it rushes forward, flattening trees. Sidestep left or right, because it turns badly mid-charge.
- A Flashlight or the Campfire stuns it while it’s walking, but not while it’s charging.
- Bonus: players aim its charge at trees for free wood.

The Ram is the Volcanic biome’s answer to the Deer: horns, hooves and a bad temper. It arrived in the Volcanic Biome Part 2 update in September 2025. It isn’t as clever as you’d think, but it hits like a truck. Here’s how it works and how to make it miss.

The Ram at a glance
| Stat | What I know |
|---|---|
| Health | Unkillable |
| Damage | 25+, rising with the day count. Its charge is where the real danger is |
| Walk speed | About 30 (slower than a chasing Deer) |
| When | Night only, from the night it wakes |
| Where | Maps with the Volcanic biome. It roams the Forest too |
| Drops | None |
| Weaknesses | Flashlight and Campfire (while walking), poor turning when charging |
Figures are from the community wiki and may shift between updates.
When does the Ram show up?
Only if your map has the Volcanic biome. Each map gets one “secondary” monster biome: Snow brings the Owl, Jungle brings the Cat, and Volcanic brings the Ram. From night 5, a short cutscene can play and the message “The Ram has woken up” appears. On a night the Ram is out, the Deer usually stays away (except during Cultist raids).
| Biome on your map | Secondary monster |
|---|---|
| Volcanic | The Ram |
| Snow | The Owl |
| Jungle | The Cat |
Does the Ram drop anything?
No. Like the Deer, it can’t be damaged, so there’s nothing to loot. Its one “gift” is accidental: its charge knocks down trees, and those trees drop logs you can collect.
How the Ram fights
The Ram chases you on foot like the Deer, but every so often it stops and winds up. A meter rises, and when it’s full, the Ram charges in a straight line, smashing through trees and anyone in the way.
- The direction it faces while winding up isn’t always where it’ll charge, so don’t relax just because it’s looking away.
- Mid-charge, it can’t turn well. Step sideways at the last moment and it thunders past.
- Flashlights and the Campfire only stun it while it walks. A charging Ram ignores them.

How to survive the Ram
- Check your map early. If you find the Volcanic biome, expect the Ram from night 5 and plan your night trips around it.
- Be home before dark, just like you would for the Deer. The Campfire’s safe zone stops a walking Ram.
- Watch for the wind-up. As soon as it stops and the meter starts filling, get ready to sidestep.
- Dodge left or right, never straight back. Running away in a straight line is exactly what it wants.
- Flash it while it walks to buy time, then break line using rocks and buildings.
- Climb if you’re stuck. High spots help, but players report it can sometimes glitch onto structures, so don’t treat a roof as guaranteed.
Ram night checklist
Before the sun goes down on a Volcanic map, run through this:
| Check | Why |
|---|---|
| Flashlight charged at the fire | Your only way to slow a walking Ram |
| Campfire topped up with spare logs nearby | The safe zone is your best defense |
| Team knows the plan | Spread out so one charge can’t hit everyone |
| Bandages or a Medkit on someone | Charges hurt, and revives save runs |
| Nobody deep in the Volcanic biome | It’s the Ram’s home turf, and getting back takes ages |
If someone gets caught out, talk them home: call out when the meter starts filling so they know when to sidestep. Teamwork beats the Ram far more often than raw speed.
The Ram wood trick
Because the Ram flattens trees when it charges, players line up rows of trees (some even plant them) and bait the charge to harvest wood without swinging an axe. It’s risky, but it’s a fun way to fill your log pile on a Volcanic map. Just do it near camp, not deep in the forest.
Ram vs Deer
| The Ram | The Deer | |
|---|---|---|
| Maps | Volcanic biome only | Every map |
| First appears | Night 5 (cutscene) | From night 2 |
| Main danger | Straight-line charge | Fast, speeds up in chases |
| Flashlight | Works while walking | Works, but recovers faster each time |
| Killable | No | No |
Kiko’s take: The Ram is the bull in a china shop of 99 Nights, except the china shop is a forest and you’re the china. Once you learn the sidestep, it’s honestly less scary than a hungry Deer. Would I trade my Tamagotchi for a Ram-cleared log pile? Lowkey, yes.
FAQ
When does the Ram spawn in 99 Nights in the Forest?
From night 5, but only on maps with the Volcanic biome. A “The Ram has woken up” cutscene plays first.
Can you kill the Ram?
No. It’s unkillable and has no drops.
How do you dodge the Ram’s charge?
Wait for the wind-up meter, then sidestep left or right. It turns poorly while charging.
Does the flashlight work on the Ram?
Yes, but only while it’s walking. A charging Ram ignores it.
Is the Ram worse than the Deer?
Its charge hits hard, but once you learn to sidestep, most players find it easier to handle than a hungry Deer.
