MM2 Beginner Guide: Survive as Innocent, Win as Murderer, Don’t Embarrass Yourself as Sheriff
TL;DR, bestie
- Every round: one Murderer, one Sheriff, and everyone else is Innocent.
- The Murderer wins by eliminating everyone.
- Innocents win if the Murderer is shot or the timer runs out.
- The Sheriff’s gun drops when they die. Any Innocent can grab it and become the Hero.
- Collect coins (up to 40 a round, or 50 with Elite) to buy boxes and items.
- Trading unlocks at level 10.

Murder Mystery 2 is the Roblox game where your best friend is either your protector or the person about to chase you round a kitchen with a knife. It’s simple, chaotic and great fun once you know the basics. Here’s how each role works and how to not be the Sheriff who shoots the wrong person (we’ve all been there).

How a round works
- Everyone spawns on a random map, and roles are assigned in secret.
- The Murderer gets their knife 10 seconds after the round starts.
- Innocents collect coins and try to survive. The Sheriff hunts for the Murderer.
- The round ends when the Murderer is shot, everyone else is eliminated, or the timer runs out.
| Role | Goal | Tools |
|---|---|---|
| Innocent | Survive and collect coins | Your legs and your wits |
| Sheriff | Find and shoot the Murderer | A gun that reloads after every shot |
| Hero | An Innocent who picked up the dead Sheriff’s gun | Same gun |
| Murderer | Eliminate everyone | Knife: stab or throw |
Your chance of being Murderer goes up every round you’re not the Murderer. Sheriff chance depends on how many players are in the server.
Innocent: the basics
- Keep moving. Hiding in obvious spots is how you get found.
- Listen for stab sounds, then peek to see who it was.
- Grab coins while it’s calm. A full bag gives bonus XP.
- If the Sheriff dies, the gun floats where they fell with a green glow. Grab it if the Murderer isn’t camping it, and you’re the Hero.
- Tell people who the Murderer is by describing their outfit. Dead players’ chat can’t be seen in the round, though.
Sheriff: the basics
- Don’t announce it. The Murderer will go for you first.
- Watch crowds from a distance. Wait to see a stab before you shoot.
- Shooting an Innocent kills you both. Patience beats panic.
- The gun reloads after each shot and isn’t super accurate at range, so get to mid range.

Murderer: the basics
- Act casual for the first few seconds. Walk like an Innocent.
- Find the Sheriff first. Once they’re gone, the round is much easier (unless someone grabs the gun).
- Throw from cover, and stab when people bunch up.
- Powers (bought in the Shop) give abilities like Sprint, Ninja (silent stabs), Fake Gun, Trap, Ghost and X-Ray. Everyone starts with Footsteps.
Coins, XP and leveling
| Thing | How it works |
|---|---|
| Coins | Spawn around the map. Up to 40 per round (50 with the Elite gamepass) |
| Innocent XP | 5 XP per second survived, plus 900 for a full coin bag and 600 for a Hero shot |
| Sheriff XP | 900 for a win, plus 320 for each Innocent still alive when you shoot the Murderer |
| Murderer XP | 700 for each Innocent eliminated |
| Win bonus | XP × 1.5 on a win (or with Elite) |
Spend coins on boxes (weapon crates), effects and pets in the Shop. Godly weapons are a small chance from crates.
Five beginner mistakes
- Standing still in a corner. The Murderer checks corners first.
- Running towards the crowd at the start. You don’t know who’s who yet.
- Shooting on a hunch as Sheriff. If you’re wrong, you’re both out.
- Ignoring the dropped gun. A Hero shot is how Innocents turn rounds around.
- Using a loud radio while hiding. The Murderer can follow the music straight to you.
Game modes
- Standard: the normal game, with all roles, powers, pets and radios.
- Disguises (formerly Hardcore): everyone looks alike and has a code name, so you have to deduce from behavior.
- Assassin: everyone has a knife and a target. Kill your target and avoid whoever’s hunting you.
Trading (when you’re ready)
Trading unlocks at level 10, a rule added to fight duping. Values come from community lists, and demand matters as much as rarity. Take it slow, check two value lists, and never trade outside the trade window.
Scam check
Scam check: “free godly” sites, “code generators” and DMs offering knives for your password are all scams. In-game, never go first in a “trust trade”. There’s no undo.
Kiko’s take: My first MM2 round, I was Sheriff, panicked, shot the first person who ran at me and took us both out. Holo Charizard energy it was not. Take a breath, watch for the knife and let the Murderer show themselves. That’s 90% of the game.
