MM2 Murderer Tips: How to Win Rounds Without Being Obvious
TL;DR, bestie
- Blend in first. Walk with the crowd and don’t pull out your knife until you strike.
- Find the Sheriff early. Taking them out makes the rest of the round much easier.
- Mix stabs and throws. Throw from cover at long range, and stab up close.
- Pick a Power that suits you: Sprint, Ninja, Trap, Fake Gun, Ghost and X-Ray all change how you play.
- Don’t camp the gun. Winning means eliminating everyone.

Being Murderer in MM2 is a weird mix of acting class and sprint training. The best Murderers don’t run around stabbing wildly. They look boring right up until they don’t. Here’s how to win rounds without giving yourself away in the first ten seconds.

The first 10 seconds
Your knife arrives 10 seconds after the round starts. Use that time well:
- Walk, don’t sprint. Innocents watch for whoever’s moving weirdly.
- Head to a busy area, but don’t stick to one person.
- Collect a coin or two like everyone else.
- Watch for the Sheriff tells: someone hanging back, watching the crowd, or holding a gun out “just in case”.
Hunting the Sheriff
| Tell | What it might mean |
|---|---|
| Standing at a distance watching a group | Classic Sheriff behavior |
| Following you around | They suspect you, or they’re bait |
| Gun visible in hand | Obviously Sheriff (or a Fake Gun Murderer!) |
| Avoiding everyone | Could be a nervous Innocent or a careful Sheriff |
Approach from behind where you can, or throw from a corner. If you miss, break line of sight straight away. The Sheriff’s gun reloads after each shot, so a missed shot gives you a window.
Stab vs throw
| Move | Best for | Watch out |
|---|---|---|
| Stab | Close range, groups, cornered players | You’re exposed while running in |
| Throw | Long range, the Sheriff, runners | Misses reveal you. Lead your target |
Throwing tip: aim slightly ahead of where someone’s running. On mobile, the throw only lands if the green icon appears on a player.
Powers: which to use
All Powers are bought in the Shop with coins or diamonds. Everyone starts with Footsteps.
| Power | What it does | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Footsteps (free) | See players’ footprints | Tracking hiders |
| Sleight | Throw and regenerate your knife faster | Aggressive throwers |
| Ninja | Silent stabs | Staying hidden in busy maps |
| Sprint | 50% faster for 5 seconds | Closing gaps and escaping |
| Haste | 10% faster with your knife out | Outrunning Innocents |
| Fake Gun | A fake gun all round | Pretending to be the Sheriff |
| Trap | Place 4 traps that freeze players for 4 seconds | Chokepoints |
| Decoy | 3 decoys that can block a shot | Surviving the Sheriff |
| Ghost | Invisible for 5 seconds | Sneaking up |
| X-Ray | See through walls for 4 seconds | Finding hiders |
Prices and details are from community lists, so double-check in-game. Check the Shop in game, as Powers get rebalanced (several were buffed in the 2025 Christmas update).

Maps that favor the Murderer
Players note Office3, Hotel2 and Mansion2 as easier maps for Murderers. They’re full of rooms, corridors and corners where you can catch people alone. Big open maps like Mil-Base, Bio Lab and Factory tend to favor the Sheriff, so play more carefully there: throw more, chase less.
Murderer in other modes
- Disguises: everyone looks alike and uses a code name, so your behavior is the only giveaway. Walk normally and you’re basically invisible.
- Assassin: everyone has a knife and a target. There are no Powers, so it’s all movement and throwing practice. It’s a great way to get better at throws for Standard rounds.
Playstyles that work
- The quiet one: pick people off one at a time with Ninja, never in view of others. Then clean up at the end.
- The actor: use Fake Gun and “help” Innocents. They’ll walk right up to you.
- The rusher: Sprint or Haste and go fast once the Sheriff’s down.
- The party host: start a “dance party” and strike when everyone’s bunched up. It’s risky if the Sheriff’s watching.
Mistakes that get Murderers shot
- Pulling the knife out early. It’s visible.
- Burning effects on kills when you’re the only one who has them. Everyone knows it’s you.
- Chasing one runner across the map while the Sheriff lines up a shot.
- Camping the dropped gun. You still need to eliminate everyone to win, and camping annoys everyone.
Kiko’s take: The best Murderer rounds I’ve had were the boring ones. I collected coins, waved at people and waited for the Sheriff to walk past a doorway. It’s basically being the quiet kid in a Y2K-era chat room who turns out to be the moderator. Patience wins.
FAQ
What’s the best Power for Murderer in MM2?
It depends on your style. Ninja and Ghost suit sneaky players, Sprint and Haste suit aggressive ones, and Fake Gun is great for tricking people.
How do I throw the knife on PC?
Press E, hold left-click, or right-click to throw.
Can the Murderer win if the timer runs out?
No. The Innocents win when time runs out, so you have to eliminate everyone.
Why does my chance of being Murderer change?
It rises each round you’re not picked, so you’ll get your turn.
Is it OK to team with friends as Murderer?
“Teaming” (friends secretly helping the Murderer) spoils the round for everyone else, and lots of players report it. Win it fair. It’s more satisfying anyway.
