MM2 Sheriff Tips: Aim, Patience and Not Shooting the Wrong Person
TL;DR, bestie
- Keep your role secret. A known Sheriff is the Murderer’s first target.
- Watch, don’t chase. Stand at a distance from groups and wait to see a stab or throw.
- Shooting an Innocent kills you both, so only shoot when you’re sure.
- The gun reloads after each shot. Fight from mid range, and lead moving targets.
- If you die, the gun drops for an Innocent to become the Hero, so die somewhere sensible.

The Sheriff is the most important role in MM2 and the easiest to mess up. One nervous shot and you’ve taken out an Innocent and yourself, and the Murderer is laughing in a cupboard. Here’s how to aim better, read the room and win more rounds.

Rule one: patience
Most Sheriff losses come from one of two things:
- Shooting too early, at someone who looked sus.
- Getting stabbed from behind while chasing someone.
The fix for both is the same: position yourself, then wait. Let the Murderer reveal themselves. Innocents running away from someone is a big clue.
Where to stand
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Start of the round | Hang back. Watch the crowd from a doorway or high ground |
| Busy room | Stay at the edge, not in the middle |
| Narrow corridor | Keep your back to a wall and watch both ends |
| Big open map | Great for you. Long sightlines, and it’s harder for the Murderer to sneak up |
| Someone walking straight at you | Back off or turn away. Don’t let unknowns get close |
Players note Mil-Base, Bio Lab and Factory as easier maps for the Sheriff.
Aim tips
- Mid range is your sweet spot. The gun isn’t very accurate far away, and up close you risk a stab.
- Lead moving targets. Aim where they’re going, not where they are.
- Don’t spam. The gun reloads after every shot, so a miss gives the Murderer a free window.
- Mobile: tap the player to shoot. On tablets in first person, drag the crosshair onto the player, let go, then tap.
- PC: press 1 to equip and left-click to shoot.
- Practice throws and shots in Assassin mode (knives only) to train your tracking.

Reading the Murderer
| Clue | Strength |
|---|---|
| You see a stab or throw | Certain. Shoot |
| Innocents fleeing from one player | Strong |
| Someone with a knife out | Certain, but check it’s not a toy like the Scary Key |
| Burning bodies when only one player has the effect | Strong |
| Someone following you closely | Medium. Back off and watch |
| “Trust me I’m innocent!!” in chat | Means nothing |
Fake Gun alert: Murderers can buy a Fake Gun Power. Someone else holding a gun doesn’t mean there are two Sheriffs. Only one real Sheriff (or Hero) exists at a time.
Decoys and traps
Newer Powers make your job harder:
- Decoy lets the Murderer place copies of themselves that can block a shot. Confirm your target is moving like a person.
- Trap freezes you for 4 seconds. Watch the floor at chokepoints.
- Ghost makes the Murderer invisible for 5 seconds. If a stab happens with nobody nearby, stay alert.
Why a clean win pays more
The XP numbers reward patience:
| Outcome | XP |
|---|---|
| Sheriff wins (survive or shoot the Murderer) | 900 |
| Each Innocent alive when you shoot the Murderer | +320 |
| Sheriff dies | 100 |
| Win multiplier | ×1.5 |
So shooting the Murderer early, with lots of Innocents still alive, is worth far more than scraping a win at the end. That’s another reason not to waste your one-at-a-time shots on guesses.
Sheriff in Disguises mode
In Disguises, everyone looks alike, has a NATO-alphabet code name and is locked to first person. You can’t spot the Murderer by outfit, so behavior is everything. Who’s lurking, who’s following people into rooms, who isn’t collecting coins. Expect a slower, more careful game, and resist the urge to shoot the first person who bumps into you.
Working with Innocents
Innocents who’ve seen the Murderer often describe them in chat (“red hair, black jacket”). That’s useful, but confirm before you shoot. Murderers sometimes blame someone else to get the Sheriff to take out an Innocent, which ends your round too. Dead players’ messages can’t be seen by people in the round, so chat callouts come from the living.
When things go wrong
- If you’re about to die, move towards Innocents, not into a dead-end. Your gun drops where you fall, and an Innocent nearby can grab it and become the Hero.
- If you leave the game, the gun spawns somewhere on the map.
Kiko’s take: My Sheriff glow-up happened when I stopped chasing. I park in a doorway, watch, and let people come to me. It’s the same energy as waiting for a dial-up connection in 2000. Annoying, but rushing just breaks everything.
FAQ
What happens if the Sheriff shoots an Innocent in MM2?
Both of them die, and the gun drops for someone else.
How do I aim better as Sheriff?
Fight at mid range, lead moving targets, don’t spam shots (it reloads after each one) and practice.
Can the Murderer pretend to be Sheriff?
Yes, with the Fake Gun Power. Watch behavior, not just weapons.
What’s a Hero in MM2?
An Innocent who picks up the dead Sheriff’s gun and shoots the Murderer.
Should I tell everyone I’m the Sheriff?
Usually no. The Murderer will make you their first target. Stay quiet, collect coins like an Innocent and let your shot be the surprise. The exception is late in a round, when grouping Innocents near you can protect them.
