How you get picked
Every round, one player is randomly chosen. Your chance starts low and rises each round you're not the Murderer, so long streaks of Innocent mean your turn is getting closer.
Getting it twice in a row can happen, but it's rare, because your chance drops after you've just had it.

On mobile, the throw only goes off if a green icon shows on your target. No green icon, no throw, so be patient.
How to win as Murderer
The opening
- Act normal for the first 10 seconds. Walk around and pick up coins like an Innocent.
- Figure out who's acting like the Sheriff. They tend to hang back and watch.
- Stay out of open sightlines until you know where they are.
Taking out the Sheriff
- Approach from behind. Following the Sheriff from the front makes them suspicious.
- Hide behind a wall or a corner and wait for them to walk close.
- A thrown knife from cover beats a stab in the open.

Perks and effects
Every Murderer starts with the Footsteps perk, but it's worth buying a Perk that fits your style.
Flashy knife effects can give you away. If you're the only player in the server with the Burning effect and bodies start catching fire, the Sheriff will know it's you.
Mistakes that lose rounds
- Camping after killing the Sheriff. Your goal is everyone, not surviving.
- Following the Sheriff too closely from the front.
- Equipping the knife in full view of a crowd.
- Using a "dance party" bait while the Sheriff is watching. It can work, but a smart Sheriff will shoot.
Funny edge cases
- If the Murderer and the Sheriff kill each other at the same moment, both get an X on the results screen, but the Sheriff is marked as the winner. The Murderer gets no XP for that Sheriff kill.
- The Murderer's win theme was made in GarageBand, not taken from the song "Imagine" like some people think.
The best Murderers I've watched are the most boring-looking players in the lobby. Walk normal, collect coins, then strike from behind. If you play like a horror movie villain from second one, the Sheriff will end your round in about four seconds.
