How Steal An Egg Works: Biomes, Resets, Speed and Stealing Rules
TL;DR, bestie
- Steal An Egg runs on four connected systems: biomes with guarded nests, your garden where eggs hatch, pets that earn money every second, and Speed, which decides how far you can safely run.
- Map eggs reset about every five minutes. Guardians sleep next to the nests and chase you once you grab one.
- Up to seven players share a server, and any of them can bat an egg out of your hands or raid your garden.
- Each pet’s income depends on three separate rolls: rarity, size and mutation.

If you’ve played Steal An Egg for ten minutes, you know the basic loop: grab, run, hatch. What’s less obvious is how the pieces fit together, and why the game sometimes feels like it’s punishing you for no reason.
This page is the rulebook version. For hands-on technique, like routes, timing and how not to get bonked, my stealing guide goes deep on that, so I won’t repeat it here.
Steal An Egg systems at a glance
| System | What it controls |
|---|---|
| Biomes | Which eggs you can reach, and which guardian you face |
| Egg reset | When fresh eggs appear in the nests |
| Garden and pens | Where eggs hatch and where pets earn |
| Speed (treadmill and trails) | How fast you run, which decides which biome gates are safe |
| Players | Stealing in both directions, with the bat and traps |
| Pet rolls | Rarity, size and mutation, which multiply income |
How it works
Biomes and gates
The map is a chain of biomes. Each one has its own eggs, its own guardian and a recommended Speed shown at the gate.
The gate doesn’t physically stop you. It’s a warning.
You can walk into a biome you’re too slow for, but getting back out with an egg is a different story.
Nests and the reset timer
Eggs sit in nests next to sleeping guardians. Roughly every five minutes, the field closes briefly and a fresh batch spawns.
Most of that cycle is open stealing time, and the last few seconds are the reset itself. Special eggs can land on a reset in any biome, which is why server chat lights up when the timer rolls over.
Carrying and weight
Picking up an egg (press E) slows you down, and bigger eggs slow you down more. This is the main thing new players miss.
A biome you can cross easily empty-handed can turn into a trap when you’re carrying a huge egg. The egg only counts as stolen once it reaches your garden.
Your garden
Back home, eggs go into pens and hatch over time, including while you’re offline. Rarer eggs take longer.
Once hatched, the pet stays in its pen and pays you money every second. That money buys pen upgrades, treadmill tiers and trails.
Speed
You train Speed on your treadmill, and trails multiply your movement on top of that. More Speed means safer runs through harder biomes, which means better eggs. My Speed guide breaks down the numbers.

Other players
Servers hold up to seven players, and the game is fully player-vs-player when it comes to eggs. You can use the bat on someone carrying an egg to knock it loose, and they can do the same to you.
Traps stun whoever steps on them, including you. A stacked garden is also a target, so don’t leave a packed base unwatched for long.
What a pet earns
Every pet has a rarity from Common up to Divine, a size shown in kilograms and sometimes a mutation like Golden or Rainbow. These three rolls are independent, and together they decide income. The full rarity ladder is in my rarity order post, and mutations have their own page: Steal An Egg mutations.

Step by step: one full loop
- Check your Speed against the gate of the biome you want.
- Wait for the reset, or check chat for a special spawn.
- Grab an egg you can actually carry home at your Speed.
- Get it into a free pen in your garden.
- Let it hatch, then leave the pet earning.
- Spend the money on Speed (treadmill, trails) or garden upgrades.
- Fuse spare duplicates. Three matching pets become one stronger pet.
- Push one biome further, then repeat.
Tips
- Upgrade Speed before you need it. The biome gate number is the minimum, not a comfortable target.
- Keep a pen free. An egg you can’t place is an egg someone else can grab.
- Don’t judge an egg by its color. Color changes the look, while shape and size are what matter for income. More on that on the Eggs page.
- Use the Pet Index. New species give one-time rewards, including traps.
Common mistakes
- Treating the gate number as a finish line, then dropping a huge egg halfway home.
- Grabbing the biggest egg in a far biome before testing the route.
- Forgetting other players can bat you, especially near your own base.
- Selling or ignoring duplicates when they could be fused.
- Chasing “auto-steal” scripts. They break Roblox’s rules and often steal accounts.
The thing I wish someone had told me on day one: Steal An Egg isn’t really a stealing game. It’s a Speed game that happens to involve stealing.
Once that clicked, I stopped losing eggs on the way home and started actually progressing. Also, the bat is the funniest item in the game, and I refuse to feel bad about using it.
