Mutations in Steal An Egg: Every Multiplier and How to Get It
TL;DR, bestie
- A mutation is a special variant rolled onto a pet in Steal An Egg. It changes the pet’s look and multiplies its income.
- The normal hatch-roll mutations are Silver (x1.2), Golden (x2.5) and Rainbow (x3.5). Rainbow is the rarest.
- Others come from items or events: Parasite (x3), Fractured (x2.75), Scrambled (x2.75), Spirit Bloom (x2.5) and Bloom (x1.25). Halloween added Spectral.
- Mutation is separate from size. Income is base × mutation × size, and size gets diminishing returns once a pet is extremely heavy.

Mutations are why two players can own the same pet and earn wildly different amounts. A plain pet and a Rainbow version of it can be miles apart.
This page lists every mutation I could confirm, how each one is obtained and how it stacks with size. The deep dive on the Halloween one is in my Spectral mutation guide, so here it gets a short summary.
Mutations at a glance
| Mutation | Income multiplier | How you get it |
|---|---|---|
| Silver | x1.2 | Normal hatch roll (the most common of the three) |
| Golden | x2.5 | Normal hatch roll |
| Rainbow | x3.5 | Normal hatch roll (the rarest) |
| Parasite | x3 | Its own Parasite Egg, from the feeding event |
| Fractured | x2.75 | A Mutation Consumable used on an egg (10% chance) |
| Scrambled | x2.75 | Dr. Scramble’s Shop item used on an egg (10% chance) |
| Spirit Bloom | x2.5 | Sakura Incubator, Cherry Blossom event (not active now) |
| Bloom | x1.25 | Sakura Incubator, Cherry Blossom event (not active now) |
| Spectral | About x2.75 | Halloween shard used on an egg (25% chance) |
Multipliers come from the community wiki and match what players report in-game. Update-day changes can shift them, so the in-game pet card is always the final word.
How it works
The hatch roll
When an egg hatches, the game rolls for a color mutation. Most pets come out plain.
The listed roll weights are Silver 6 in 100, Golden 4 in 100 and Rainbow 1 in 100. That puts a Rainbow at about a 1% chance per hatch.
Each mutation has a distinct look: metallic silver, shiny gold with coin sparkles, or an animated rainbow that cycles colors.

Item and event mutations
The rest don’t come from the normal roll. You apply them through something:

- Fractured: Use a Mutation Consumable on an egg for a 10% chance.
- Scrambled: Use the Dr. Scramble’s Shop item on an egg, also a 10% chance. It has a toxic, poison-style look.
- Parasite: Comes from a dedicated Parasite Egg tied to the feeding event.
- Spirit Bloom and Bloom: These came from the Sakura Incubator during the Cherry Blossom event, by collecting Sakura Crystals and charging the incubator with a pet inside. Fully charging doubled the Spirit Bloom chance. Neither is available while that event is off.
- Spectral: The Halloween Dimension mutation, applied with a shard for a 25% chance.
Size is a separate roll
Size is rolled independently and shows as a weight in kilograms on the pet card. That’s how you get combinations like a Golden pet that’s also huge.
Income multiplies base rate × mutation × size. Size gains slow down a lot once a pet is extremely heavy compared to its species’ normal weight, so a ridiculous size roll helps less than you’d think.
Step by step: chasing a mutation
- Hatch lots of eggs. Every hatch is a free roll at Silver, Golden or Rainbow.
- Put your best base pets first in line for item mutations like Fractured or Scrambled, because the multiplier is applied to whatever the pet already earns.
- Save consumables for higher-rarity eggs. A 10% chance is too precious to spend on a Common.
- During events, prioritize the event’s mutation. Most of them disappear when the event ends.
- Check the pet card after hatching to confirm the mutation and the weight.
Tips
- A Rainbow on a high-rarity pet is the dream roll. A Rainbow Common is fun but won’t carry your garden.
- Size is usually the easier way to boost income, since good size rolls are more common than rare mutations.
- If a “mutation” looks glitchy and isn’t on this list, assume it’s a visual bug until the game confirms otherwise.
Common mistakes
- Thinking a mutation replaces size. They’re separate and they multiply together.
- Spending 10% consumables on low-rarity pets.
- Expecting event mutations to come back on a schedule. There’s no promise they will.
- Assuming the multipliers on this page never change. Check the pet card after big updates.
Mutations are where Steal An Egg gets a little bit gambling-brained, and I say that with love. My honest advice: let the free hatch rolls do their thing, and only burn consumables on pets you’d keep forever.
And if a Rainbow ever lands on one of your high-rarity pets, screaming is allowed. I won’t judge.
FAQ
What is the best mutation in Steal An Egg?
From the normal hatch roll, Rainbow at x3.5. Overall, Rainbow is still at the top of the list I could confirm.
Can a pet have a mutation and a big size?
Yes. Size and mutation are rolled separately and multiply together.
Can I still get Bloom or Spirit Bloom?
Not right now. They came from the Sakura Incubator during the Cherry Blossom event.
