How it works
Getting a pet
There are two ways to bring a pet out. The quick way is the pets menu in the sidebar. It sits in the same menu as Kids, on a separate tab. The roleplay way is the Pet Adoption Center, where you can walk in and pick one like you’re actually adopting. That’s perfect if you’re running a family scene and want the “we got a dog!” moment.

Actions
Once your pet is out, it follows you and you get five actions:
- Carry: Pick your pet up and hold it.
- Feed: A food bowl appears, and the pet plays an eating animation.
- Pet: A gentle head pat.
- Stay: The pet stays put where it is.
- Unequip: Puts the pet away.
Dogs bark and cats meow on their own when they’re idle, and pets shift positions as they move, so they feel surprisingly alive for a roleplay accessory.
Names
You can rename your pet from the sidebar and change the name’s color. It’s a small thing, but a dog called “Sir Barksalot” in bright yellow does a lot for a scene.
Step by step: a quick pet roleplay
- Go to the Pet Adoption Center and pick your new pet.
- Name it and pick a name color.
- Walk it home. It’ll follow you.
- Use Feed at home and Pet for the cute moments.
- When the story needs drama, head to the Pet Hospital for a vet visit.
- Use Stay to park it in a room while you do something else, or Unequip when the scene’s done.
Tips
- The free four are plenty for most scenes. A Beagle and a Tabby cover the classic “dog and cat household.”

- Stay is handy for photos. Pose the pet first, then get yourself in frame.
- The House Pets pass is purely cosmetic variety, so buy it only if you really want those breeds. My gamepass ranking puts it in context.
Common mistakes
- Looking for pet levels or rarities. Brookhaven pets don’t have them.
- Expecting to trade pets. There’s no pet trading in Brookhaven.
- Forgetting the Pet Adoption Center and Pet Hospital exist. They’re half the fun.
- Assuming the Turtle and Bunny are free. Both need House Pets.
Kiko’s take: I’m a Border Collie person in every game, and Brookhaven is no exception. Free, cute and the perfect sidekick for literally any scene. Pets don’t change gameplay at all, but they make a house feel lived-in. A roleplay with a dog barking in the background is just better. That’s science. Probably.
