The Elderwood Scythe looks like someone carved a scythe out of a cursed tree, then let a purple leaf grow into the blade. It’s the knife that started a tradition. Every “grind the event, buy the Ancient at the end” item since 2019 follows the path this scythe made. Here’s its story and what to know before you trade for one.

How to get the Elderwood Scythe
The Halloween 2019 Main Event had 40 tiers, and each one cost 1,000 Candies. Clear them all and the Traveler offered the Elderwood Scythe for 80,000 Candies more. Collecting every item in that event, including the Elderwood radio, came to 124,000 Candies. That’s a lot of rounds.

What it looks like
The handle is bent and frayed, like a twisted tree trunk. The blade is purple and black with purple streaks, shaped like a big curved leaf. It’s spooky without being gory, which is very on brand for MM2 Halloween. The in-game picture changed after release, so older screenshots look a little different from what you’ll see in your inventory today.
It’s one of the few scythes in the game, next to the Batwing, Nik’s Scythe, Icewing, the Hallowscythe, Reaver and Gingerscythe.
Set and history
The scythe partners with the Elderwood Revolver, a Godly gun from the 2019 Halloween Box. It’s dark green with purple chambers and a handle that looks like bark. Together they make the Elderwood Set. Add the Elderwood Blade and you’ve got the Full Elderwood Set, which is the version collectors brag about.
History notes:
- The first event-track Ancient. Before Halloween 2019, Ancients didn’t sit at the end of an event track. After it, that became the norm, with the Logchopper, Harvester, Icepiercer and others following.

- Hit by the 2021 dupe. The Elderwood Scythe was one of the main victims of the Duping Glitch in 2021, which flooded the market and knocked its demand down for a while.
Demand and rarity
Demand is steady, not explosive. It’s an off-sale Ancient with a legendary origin story, but the 2021 dupe means there are more of them around than you’d expect. Collectors still value it, especially as part of a full set. If you want it mainly for looks, it’s one of the more approachable Ancients to aim for.
