Chests in 99 Nights in the Forest: Every Tier, Where It Spawns and What Drops

TL;DR, bestie

  • Chests in 99 Nights in the Forest hold gear, fuel, healing and Diamonds. The deeper into the forest you go, the better they get.
  • The classic order, from most common to rarest: Common, Good, Iron, Legendary, Gold, Ruby. There’s also a Diamond Chest that always gives 5 Diamonds.
  • Ruby Chests have the best loot (Chainsaw, Kunai, Riot Shield, Thorn Body, Tactical Shotgun) and are guaranteed after clearing the Cultist Stronghold.
  • Biomes and events add their own chests, like the Vampire Chest at the end of the Hedge Maze and the Ice Chest in the Snow Biome.

Chests are the forest’s loot boxes, minus the Robux. Every run, the right chest at the right time can turn a shaky team into a well-armed one.

Knowing which chest shows up where, and what’s inside, is half of planning a good run. Here’s the full breakdown.

How it works

Chests spawn around the map, and better tiers show up farther from camp. As your Campfire levels up and reveals more of the map, you start running into better chests.

Most normal chests can also include a Diamond. Ruby Chests are first come, first served: once one player opens it, it turns into a Gold Chest for everyone else.

Special chests

The game has a whole set of themed chests. The Hot and Infernal Chests come from the Volcanic Biome.

Cold and Ice Chests come from the Snow Biome (break the ice with an axe first). Vine Chests sit in Jungle Temples, Tar Pits and Jungle Outposts, and there’s one big Jungle Chest per world for players who insert all 4 Cursed Skulls.

The Frog Chest follows the Frog King fight, the Alien Chest comes from the Mothership UFO, and the Obsidiron Chest is the only chest you craft yourself, at the Meteor Anvil.

The Vampire Chest waits at the end of the Hedge Maze and holds the Vampire Cloak, Scythe or Bouncing Blade. My Hedge Maze guide covers how to reach it.

Step by step: a chest route that works

  1. Grab nearby Commons and Goods early for a sack, an axe and a flashlight.
  2. Level the Campfire so the map opens up and better chests appear.
  3. Watch for dirt drawings. Uncovering them shows directions to hidden chests.
  4. Clear the Cultist Stronghold with your team. It guarantees a Ruby and a Diamond Chest.
  5. Hit biome chests once you’ve got the gear for the Snow or Volcanic Biome.

Tips

  • Explorer at level 3 gives chests a black outline, which makes them much easier to spot.
  • Gambler can upgrade or downgrade a chest by one tier. It starts as a 50/50 and improves to 60/40 at Gambler level 2.
  • Diamonds on a timer: a Diamond spawns in your next non-special chest every 30 minutes. Open chests regularly instead of hoarding them. My Diamonds guide has every other source.
  • Farm Rubies through Strongholds. Repeat clears are the most reliable source.

Common mistakes

  • Opening a Ruby Chest solo when a teammate needs it more. It downgrades for everyone after the first open.
  • Ignoring Gold Chests. They’re the only place the Morningstar drops.
  • Skipping the Stronghold. It’s the easiest guaranteed Ruby in the game.
  • Going deep too early. Better chests mean tougher enemies. Get armor before you chase Legendary chests.

If I could teach every new player one thing, it would be “clear the Stronghold”. A guaranteed Ruby plus 5 Diamonds is the best deal in the forest.

And if your team has a Gambler, let them open the mid-tier chests. A 60/40 upgrade chance is lowkey the best gamble in Roblox, because nobody’s charging you for it.
