Shadow Dragon in Adopt Me: Where It Came From, Neon Look and Demand

TL;DR, bestie

  • The Shadow Dragon is a Legendary pet from Adopt Me!’s Halloween 2019 event.
  • It cost 1,000 Robux in the Candy Trading Shop while the event ran. It’s been off-sale ever since, so trading is the only way to get one now.
  • Neon and Mega Neon versions exist: the Neon glows light purple, the Mega Neon cycles through rainbow colors.
  • It’s one of the most wanted pets in the whole game. Treat any “cheap Shadow Dragon” offer as a red flag.

If Adopt Me! had a cover star, it would probably be this skeletal goth lizard. The Shadow Dragon has been on the game’s thumbnail more times than I can count, and it’s still the pet people bring up first when they talk about “the good old days” of trading. Here’s what it actually is, where it came from and what you should know before you go hunting for one.

How to get the Shadow Dragon

You can’t buy or hatch one today. The Shadow Dragon was only sold during the 2019 Halloween event, next to the Bat Dragon, the Evil Unicorn and the Zombie Buffalo. When the event ended, the shop closed for good. That leaves trading, which means you need a Trade License and a lot of patience.

One fun footnote: during the Admin Abuse event on 8 November 2025, players got a free ride-and-fly Mega Neon Shadow Dragon. It was untradable and vanished from inventories when the event ended, so if a friend says they “had one once,” they might be telling the truth.

What it looks like

The Shadow Dragon is all bones and attitude. It’s black and gaunt, with two big horns, a long arched snout, wide wings and ribs poking out of its sides. Its eyes glow lavender, its exposed rib cage gives off little glowing particles, and at night you can see its tongue glow too. It looks like it was designed by someone who listened to a lot of emo music in 2007, and I mean that as a compliment.

Ages, Neon and Mega Neon

As it grows from Newborn to Full Grown, it learns Sit, Lay Down, Joy, Jump, Dive and finally Shadow Breath. Being a Legendary, it needs more tasks per age than most pets, so raising one takes a while. My age-up guide helps.

Fuse four Full Grown Shadow Dragons at the Neon Cave and you get a Neon, which glows light purple on its horns, claws, tongue, inner wings and parts of its spine. Four Luminous Neons make a Mega Neon, where those same spots cycle through the rainbow. The full process is in my Neon and Mega Neon guide.

Demand and rarity

Demand for the Shadow Dragon is very high and has stayed that way for years. Three things keep it there: it’s a Legendary, it’s been off-sale since 2019 so the supply only shrinks as people make Neons, and it’s simply one of the best-looking pets in the game. Neons and especially Mega Neons are much harder to find than the plain version.

I don’t publish numeric trade values, because they change daily and every value list disagrees. If you want a deeper look at what people offer for one, read what a Shadow Dragon is worth. kikomii value tools are on the way.

Kiko’s take: The Shadow Dragon earns its reputation. It’s gorgeous, it’s retired and it’s instantly recognizable. But it’s also the number one bait in scam trades, exactly because everyone wants one. If someone is offering it suspiciously cheap, or asking you to “trust trade” first, walk away. A real Shadow Dragon trade never needs you to go first.

FAQ

Can I still buy the Shadow Dragon? No. It was only sold during Halloween 2019 and has been off-sale since.

Is the Shadow Dragon a Legendary? Yes, it’s a Legendary pet.

What’s the difference between Neon and Mega Neon Shadow Dragons? The Neon glows light purple. The Mega Neon glows in the same places but cycles through rainbow colors.

Is it rarer than the Bat Dragon? Both are retired Legendaries from the same event and both are in very high demand. I compare them on each pet’s page instead of pretending there’s one official answer.
