Corrupt in MM2: The First Unique Knife and the Dupe That Changed It

TL;DR, bestie

  • Corrupt is a Unique knife in Murder Mystery 2. Nikilis gave it to players who lost their inventories in the Data Loss Glitch in December 2014.
  • It was the first Unique item ever. Back then, the rarity was called “Reward.”
  • It has a golden blade on the Default Knife shape. You can only get it by trading now.
  • The 2017 Duping Glitch made a lot of copies, so it’s far less rare than it used to be.

Corrupt is one of the oldest stories in MM2. It started as an apology for a bad bug and grew into a legend. Then a second bug knocked it down a peg. If you’ve ever looked at the Nikilis statue in the lobby and wondered why it’s holding a golden knife, this is that knife.

How to get Corrupt

Nobody could ever buy Corrupt. In December 2014, a glitch wiped some players’ inventories, and Nikilis handed out Corrupt as compensation. That’s the whole original source. There was no shop, no crate and no event.

Today, trading is the only route. Unlike most Uniques, Corrupt can be traded, so it does show up in offers. A weird quirk players mention: sometimes you need to reset your character before a freshly traded Corrupt appears in your inventory. Don’t panic if it doesn’t show instantly. Reset first, then check again. My trading guide has the safe-trade basics.

What it looks like

Corrupt uses the exact same shape as the Default Knife, but swaps in a golden blade, a silver guard and a dark gray-black handle. It’s a clean, simple look. The fun part is that it’s the only knife above Legendary that kept the starter knife’s silhouette, so at a glance it looks like a starter knife someone dipped in gold.

Set and history

  • The first Unique. Corrupt created the category. Nikilis tweeted about a new rarity at the time, and it was first called “Reward” before being renamed Unique in a later update.
  • The lobby statue. The Nikilis statue on the fountain in the main lobby holds Corrupt, which tells you how important it was in early MM2.
  • The Corrupt Set. Players pair it with the Luger, a Godly gun, to make a matching set.
  • The 2017 Duping Glitch. Corrupt was one of the main targets when a duplication exploit hit the game in 2017. Before that, it was one of the rarest items in MM2, second only to Nik’s Scythe. Afterward, many more copies existed, and its standing dropped hard.

Player estimates of how many Corrupts existed before and after the dupe vary a lot. I’m not going to repeat a number I can’t confirm.

Demand and rarity

These days, Corrupt is more of a collector’s item than a top-tier trade piece. People want it for the history, the statue connection and the clean gold look, not because it’s scarce. Demand is moderate and depends heavily on who you’re trading with. Some old-school players still value it a lot, while newer players often don’t know what it is.

I don’t post numeric values on wiki pages, because values move and lists disagree. My MM2 value list post explains how to read lists. kikomii value tools are on the way.

Kiko’s take: I love Corrupt because it’s a piece of MM2 history you can actually hold. It’s proof that the game has been around long enough to have folklore. Would I overpay for one? No, the dupe era made sure of that. Would I keep one in my inventory just to pull it out next to the statue? Absolutely.

FAQ

Why is it called a Unique? It was the first item in that category. It started out labeled “Reward” and was renamed Unique later.

Is Corrupt rare? It used to be extremely rare, but the 2017 Duping Glitch created many copies. Now it’s more of a history piece than a rarity.

What gun goes with Corrupt? The Luger. Together they’re known as the Corrupt Set.
