Blacksmith Class in 99 Nights: Perks, Leveling, Crafting Tips and Is It Worth It
TL;DR, bestie
- Cost: 200 diamonds in the lobby General Store (or the Classes button).
- Starts with: a Hammer, which picks placed structures back up.
- Big perk: craft recipes from the next bench tier without upgrading (works up to tier 4, never tier 5).
- Best for: speedrunners and base builders. Weak spot: it falls off once your bench hits tier 5.

Blacksmith is the class I pick when the campfire base looks like a junk drawer and somebody has to turn it into a factory. It doesn't hit harder or run faster. It just makes every scrap you grind go further.
Think of it as a quality-of-life class. You trade raw combat for tempo, and in a good squad that tempo snowballs.
Blacksmith at a glance
| Fact | Detail |
|---|---|
| Cost | 200 diamonds |
| Starter tool | Hammer |
| Level 1 perk | Craft items from the next crafting bench tier (up to tier 4) |
| Level 2 perk | 2 random bench recipes are discounted for everyone at the start of the run |
| Level 3 perk | Chance of extra scrap from items you put in the grinder |
| Added in | The Crafting Update, alongside the Farmer class |
| Playstyle | Support / builder / speedrun |

How to unlock Blacksmith
- Collect 200 diamonds from runs, badges and chests.
- In the lobby, walk into the General Store on the left side, or tap the Classes button on the left of your screen.
- Buy Blacksmith, then equip it before you join a run.
Every 24 hours, 4 random classes go on sale: two at 10% off, one at 15% and one at 20%. If you aren't in a rush, check the store daily and grab Blacksmith when it rolls a discount.
Blacksmith has also been buyable with event currencies (like Candy during Halloween) when the event shop lists it. That depends on the event, so check the shop when one is live.
Every perk explained
Level 1: craft from the next tier
This is the whole class, honestly. On a tier 1 bench you can already craft tier 2 recipes. On tier 3 you can craft tier 4 stuff, which matters a lot because tier 4 normally means hunting Cultist Gems first.
The one limit: it stops at tier 4. You can't use it to reach tier 5 recipes.
Level 2: two discounted recipes
At the start of each run, 2 random bench recipes get a discount of roughly 40%. The discount applies for every player in the server, not just you.
Because the picks are random, treat it as a bonus. Some runs you get cheap Log Walls, other runs it's a bed nobody needs.
Level 3: extra scrap from the grinder
When you drop scrap items into the grinder, there's about a 10–15% chance to get 2 bonus scrap. The grinder throws sparks when it procs, so you'll know.
- It only works on scrap items, not wood.
- Bigger junk doesn't raise the chance, but it does give more base scrap.
- Over a long run those little procs add up to several free crafts.
How the grinder and scrap work
Junk items show bolt icons that hint at how much scrap they give. The number of bolts isn't the exact amount, so here's the real conversion:
| Bolt icons | Scrap you get | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 🔩 | 1 | Topping off a cheap recipe |
| 🔩🔩 | 3 | Compass or Bear Trap |
| 🔩🔩🔩 | 5 | Sun Dial or a Torch |
| 🔩🔩🔩🔩 | 8 | Most of a tier 3 bench upgrade |

As Blacksmith, your job is to keep that grinder fed. Ask teammates to drop junk at base instead of hoarding it in their bags.

What the tier skip actually unlocks
Here's what Blacksmith can reach early, using the current bench recipes and prices. Prices are wood and scrap, before any Level 2 discount.
| Your bench | You can also craft | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | Tier 2: Sun Dial (5 scrap), Compass (3 scrap), Farm Plot (10 wood), Shelf (2 scrap), Log Wall (12 wood), Log Gate (20 wood), Bear Trap (3 scrap) | Food and defense on day 1 instead of day 3 |
| Tier 2 | Tier 3: Crock Pot (10 scrap + 15 wood), Radar, Boost Pad, Biofuel Processor (10 wood), Torches (5 scrap) | Stew and a bigger campfire light radius much earlier |
| Tier 3 | Tier 4 recipes | Skips the early Cultist Gem hunt |
| Tier 4+ | Nothing extra | Perk stops at tier 4, so your edge shrinks here |
Swipe the table sideways →
Call out your perk the moment the run starts. If a teammate spends wood and scrap upgrading the bench to tier 2 while you could already craft from it, that's resources gone for nothing.
How to level Blacksmith fast
| Level | Upgrade the crafting bench | Build structures you crafted |
|---|---|---|
| Level 2 | 20 times | 80 structures |
| Level 3 | 40 times | 250 structures |
You can also skip with Robux: 250 Robux for Level 2 and 400 Robux for Level 3. Grinding it is free, just a bit boring.
Fastest bench-upgrade route
- Join a solo run so nobody else touches the bench.
- Gather 5 wood and 1 scrap, then upgrade to tier 2.
- If you have 15 wood and 10 scrap handy, push to tier 3 for a second upgrade.
- Reset the run and repeat. Each upgrade counts toward the 20 / 40 goal.
Fastest structure route
- Shelves cost just 2 scrap each and there's no cap, so they're the cheapest structure to spam.
- Your Hammer can pick structures back up, but placing is what counts, so keep crafting fresh ones.
- Do this solo. In a team run, burning scrap on 40 shelves will make your squad hate you.
How to play Blacksmith well
Day 1 to day 5
- Stay close to base and the grinder. You're the factory, not the scout.
- Craft 2–4 Farm Plots right away. Each grows 6 veggies every other day.
- Get a Bear Trap or two down near the camp entrance for wolves.
- Use the Sun Dial so everyone knows when night hits.
Midgame
- Rush the Crock Pot. Stew restores a big chunk of hunger and you can carry it.
- Place Torches (max 6) to grow the safe light radius around the campfire.
- Build Log Walls and a Log Gate to stop cultists walking straight in.
- Check which 2 recipes got the Level 2 discount and plan around them.
Late game
Once your bench is at tier 5, the tier skip does nothing. Your value becomes grinder luck and base upkeep.
This is where you either pick up a weapon and help fight, or start a fresh run with a different class.

Best squad partners for Blacksmith
Blacksmith turns resources into structures. The best partners are the ones who bring in more resources.
| Partner class | What they bring | Why it pairs well |
|---|---|---|
| Lumberjack (70 diamonds) | Good Axe start, 20% chance of a bonus log per tree | More wood for Log Walls, Farm Plots and Crock Pot upgrades |
| Farmer (80 diamonds) | Watering Can for rarer crops from Farm Plots | You craft the plots on day 1, they turn them into Pumpkins |
| Hunter (40 diamonds) | 2 Bear Traps and better meat drops | Food for the Crock Pot while you stay on base duty |
| Alien (100 diamonds) | Raygun and great night vision | Someone has to guard the grinder when cultists show up |

My Blacksmith build order
This is the order I use in a normal squad run. Swap steps around if your Level 2 discount lands on something useful.
- Minute one: craft the Map (3 wood) and tell the squad "don't upgrade the bench, I've got tier 2."
- Day 1: 2 Farm Plots, 1 Compass and a Bear Trap at the main path into camp.
- Day 2: Sun Dial, then save for the tier 2 bench upgrade so you unlock tier 3 recipes.
- Days 3–5: Crock Pot first, Torches second. Food and light beat fancy walls.
- Days 5–10: Log Walls and a Log Gate around the campfire, then shelves for spare fuel.
- Tier 3 bench: start crafting tier 4 recipes before anyone has a Cultist Gem.
Shelves double as fuel storage. Once the campfire is full, park extra logs and coal on shelves so they don't roll in and get wasted.
Hammer tricks
- Bear Trap combat: place a trap, lure a wolf onto it, then pick the trap back up with the Hammer. Bear Traps deal 100 damage, enough to drop a regular Wolf.
- Bears ignore traps: Bears and Polar Bears don't trigger Bear Traps, so don't build your plan around them.
- Fix your layout: misplaced a wall? Hammer it up and move it instead of crafting a new one.
Keep a melee weapon in your hotbar anyway. Crafting doesn't make wolves polite, and the Hammer isn't a real weapon.
Pros and cons
Pros
- Great for speedruns and fast base setup
- Skips the early Cultist Gem wall for tier 4
- Recipe discounts help the whole server
- Extra scrap adds up over long runs
Cons
- Needs teammates who listen
- Falls off after the tier 5 bench
- Level 3 takes 250 structures
- No real combat perks
Blacksmith vs Ranger vs Berserker
| Class | Cost | Role | Best moment | Falls off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Blacksmith | 200 diamonds | Crafting tempo | Days 1–20 | After tier 5 bench |
| Ranger | 70 diamonds | Early ranged combat | First 2 kid rescues | After early game |
| Berserker | 100 diamonds | High-risk melee damage | Low-HP fights, solo | Weak until Level 3 |

My pick for a squad of three: one Blacksmith at base, one Ranger rescuing kids early, and whoever's left goes fighter.
Is Blacksmith worth 200 diamonds?
For most players, Blacksmith shouldn't be your first class. Cheaper picks like Hunter (40) or Lumberjack (70) help a brand-new player survive more nights.
- Buy it if you play with the same squad, you like running base, or you speedrun to day 99.
- Wait on it if you mostly play solo with randoms who ignore chat.
- Skip it if you want a combat class. Alien or Berserker will feel better.
Sale math: at 20% off, Blacksmith drops to 160 diamonds. That's 40 diamonds back, which is basically a whole Hunter.
Common mistakes
- Not telling anyone about the tier skip, so the bench gets upgraded for nothing.
- Grinding wood and expecting the scrap perk to proc. It only works on scrap.
- Leveling with shelf spam in a team run.
- Wandering off to fight while the grinder sits empty.
- Expecting the perk to help at tier 5. It won't.
Blacksmith is a yes if your bases always look unfinished by night 10. It's a no if you refuse to touch a crafting bench and then complain about gear. For 200 diamonds, wait for a daily sale if you can.

FAQ
How much does Blacksmith cost in 99 Nights in the Forest?
200 diamonds. Four random classes get 10–20% off every 24 hours, so it can be cheaper on a sale day.
What does the Blacksmith start with?
A Hammer. It can pick placed structures back up, which is handy for moving walls and reusing Bear Traps.
Can Blacksmith craft tier 5 items early?
No. The tier-skip perk works up to tier 4 only.
How big is the Blacksmith recipe discount?
About 40% on 2 random bench recipes, picked at the start of each run and shared with everyone in the server.
Does the extra scrap perk work with logs?
No. It only triggers on scrap items in the grinder, with roughly a 10–15% chance for 2 bonus scrap.
What's the fastest way to level Blacksmith?
Solo runs where you upgrade the bench and reset, plus spamming 2-scrap shelves for the structure goal. Level 3 needs 40 upgrades and 250 structures.
Is Blacksmith good solo?
It's fine for speedrunning solo, but it shines most in a squad where people listen to your crafting calls.
